An Impulsstötar, often translated as impulse driver or impact driver, is a type of power tool designed to deliver high torque in short bursts. Unlike a standard drill or impact wrench that spins continuously, an impulse driver uses a hammer and anvil mechanism. When the tool encounters resistance exceeding a set torque threshold, a rotating mass (the hammer) strikes an anvil, generating a powerful rotational impact. This action allows the tool to drive fasteners into dense materials or loosen stubborn bolts more effectively than a continuous rotational force.

The primary advantage of an impulse driver is its ability to apply significant torque without requiring the user to exert substantial physical force. This reduces strain on the user's wrists and arms, making it ideal for prolonged use or for tasks involving large fasteners. The impact action also helps to prevent over-tightening and can reduce the likelihood of stripping screw heads or breaking bolts.

The tools are typically powered by electricity, either corded or cordless, with cordless models offering greater portability.
