In an event-driven system, components communicate asynchronously by signaling that something has happened.

The core components of an event-driven architecture include event producers, event consumers, and an event channel or bus. Event producers generate events when certain conditions are met. Event consumers subscribe to specific types of events and react accordingly when they occur. The event channel acts as an intermediary, receiving events from producers and distributing them to interested consumers. This decoupling allows for greater flexibility and scalability.

Event-driven programming is widely used in various applications. User interfaces commonly employ this paradigm; for example, a mouse click or a key press is an event that triggers a specific action in the software. Web servers can be event-driven, handling multiple incoming requests concurrently without blocking. In distributed systems, event-driven architectures facilitate communication and coordination between different services. The asynchronous nature of event handling makes systems more responsive and resilient to failures.
