Hyperviserów, commonly known as hypervisors or virtual machine monitors (VMMs), are software, firmware, or hardware systems that create and manage virtual machines (VMs). They enable multiple operating systems to run concurrently on a single physical machine by abstracting the underlying hardware resources. Hypervisors play a crucial role in virtualization technology, increasing hardware utilization, simplifying management, and providing isolated environments for different applications.

There are two main types of hypervisors. Type 1 hypervisors, also called native or bare-metal hypervisors, run directly on the host's hardware. They provide high performance and security, making them suitable for data centers and enterprise environments. Examples include VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Xen. Type 2 hypervisors, or hosted hypervisors, run on top of a conventional operating system, relying on the host OS to access hardware resources. They are typically used for development, testing, or desktop virtualization, with examples like VMware Workstation and Oracle VirtualBox.

Hypervisors manage hardware resources such as CPU, memory, storage, and network interfaces for each VM, ensuring isolation and resource allocation according to configured policies. They also facilitate VM migration, snapshot management, and resource monitoring. The use of hypervisors enhances system flexibility, enables disaster recovery solutions, and allows for efficient resource utilization.
