Gantry-mounted refers to equipment or systems that are installed on a gantry, a rigid framework that spans a defined area and supports a carriage or payload for movement along rails or tracks. A gantry typically consists of two or more vertical supports connected by a crossbeam, providing a stable mounting platform with the ability to move equipment along multiple axes.

Gantry-mounted systems are designed to provide precise positioning and high load capacity. In common configurations, a carriage travels along rails on the gantry to achieve horizontal positioning, while the attached device is moved vertically by an additional actuator or by the gantry itself. Some designs add extra axes for tilt, pitch, or rotation, enabling more complex trajectories. Gantries can be anchored to the floor, integrated into a facility structure, or mounted on overhead rails.

Applications span several industries. In film and broadcast, gantry-mounted camera rigs enable wide, overhead, and dynamic shots. In manufacturing and automation, gantry systems support CNC machines, robotic tooling, or inspection devices. Coordinate measuring machines and other metrology setups may use gantry-style layouts for large, accurate measurements. Gantry structures are also used in large-scale solar tracking and material-handling environments to move equipment or panels across a plane.

Key design considerations include structural rigidity, load-bearing capacity, positioning accuracy and repeatability, vibration control, maintenance access, and environmental protection. Proper alignment between the gantry and mounted equipment is essential to performance, as is accurate rail or track installation and lubrication.
