Gaara is a fictional character from Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto series. He serves as the jinchūriki of Shukaku, the One-Tailed Beast, and is the son of Sunagakure’s Fourth Kazekage, Rasa. His mother, Karura, died during his birth after sacrificing herself to seal Shukaku inside him. Raised in isolation and treated as a weapon by the Sand Village, Gaara initially embodies a ruthless, deadly persona and is feared by many.

Gaara’s primary ability is the manipulation of sand, which he controls with his chakra to defend himself, attack opponents, and crush enemies. He can form sand armor around his body, create offensive sand constructs, and use techniques such as Sand Coffin and Sand Burial to trap and overwhelm foes. The presence of Shukaku grants him augmented speed, resilience, and raw destructive power, contributing to his reputation as a formidable fighter.

In the early part of the series, Gaara clashes with Naruto Uzumaki during the Chūnin Exams arc. Naruto’s persistence and compassion help Gaara reassess his worldview, leading to a gradual personal transformation. Gaara eventually adopts a more protective and collaborative stance, forming alliances with Konoha and contributing to later conflicts as an ally of the Allied Shinobi Forces.

Following the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Gaara becomes the Fifth Kazekage of Sunagakure and works to stabilize and modernize the village while fostering better relations with other nations. He remains an important figure in the Naruto universe, later appearing in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations as a seasoned leader and caretaker of the Sand Village.
