Futures options, or futuresopties, are standardized options on futures contracts. They give the holder the right, but not the obligation, to enter into a specified futures contract at a predetermined strike price on or before expiration. The underlying asset is a futures contract on a commodity, financial instrument, or index, and the option’s value moves with the price of that futures contract. Options on futures can be call options (the right to enter a long futures position) or put options (the right to enter a short futures position).
