Frymëmarr is a term used in Albanian to describe the process of breathing. It encompasses both inhalation (thithja) and exhalation (nxjerrja). This vital physiological function is essential for the survival of most living organisms, including humans. During inhalation, oxygen-rich air is drawn into the lungs, where it is transferred to the bloodstream. Exhalation then expels carbon dioxide, a waste product of metabolism, from the body.

The mechanics of frymëmarr involve the diaphragm, a dome-shaped muscle located at the base of the chest cavity, and the intercostal muscles between the ribs. When these muscles contract, they increase the volume of the thoracic cavity, causing air to rush into the lungs. Relaxation of these muscles decreases the volume, pushing air out.
