Governance and risk management processes, including risk assessments and business impact analyses, help determine appropriate protections and ensure usability and cost considerations are balanced.

Standards and regulatory contexts often inform flerskyddat practices. They align with frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST, and in Sweden may intersect with guidance from MSB (Myndigheten för samhällsskydd och beredskap) and GDPR-related requirements administered by the IMY.
