Financat is a term used in fintech design discussions to describe an approach that blends financial literacy with gamified, cat-themed user interfaces to support budgeting and personal financial decisions. It is not a formal instrument or standardized technology, but a concept.

Originating in design blogs and forum discussions in the mid-2010s, financat is used as a descriptive label for prototype interfaces that employ cat avatars, animations, and pet metaphors to present budgeting goals and savings progress. It has no official taxonomy and remains primarily a design concept.

The core idea is to map financial tasks to engaging narratives and visuals. Cat avatars may indicate progress toward goals, reflect risk tolerance, or personify accounts, while feedback emphasizes positive reinforcement, such as earning treats or upgrades as savings grow.

In design contexts, financat serves as a case study for gamification in financial apps. Prototypes may translate expenses into feeding routines or translate compound interest into playful cat choreography; actual adoption remains experimental and nonstandard.

Critics warn that mascot-driven interfaces can trivialize finance, oversimplify advice, or pose privacy concerns through data-intensive gamification. Accessibility issues, including color contrast and screen-reader compatibility in animated components, are also important considerations.
