The Europallet, often called the EUR-pallet or Euro pallet, is a standardized wooden pallet widely used in Europe to support and manage goods in warehouses, during handling, and across intermodal transport. It is designed to be compatible with forklifts, pallet jacks, and automated handling systems, enabling efficient transfer between modes of transportation such as truck, ship, and rail.

The standard footprint of the EUR-pallet is 1200 by 800 millimeters. It typically has a height around 144 millimeters and is built to allow four-way forklift entry. Construction usually comprises a deck of upper and lower boards connected by stringers, commonly made from softwood such as spruce or pine. The pallet is designed for high strength and durability, with a weight commonly around 20 to 25 kilograms depending on construction and repairs.

Standardization and quality control are maintained by EPAL, the European Pallet Association. Pallets carrying the EPAL mark meet strict specifications for dimensions, materials, and workmanship. Repairs must be performed by EPAL-approved repair centers, and repaired pallets receive renewed stamps to certify their condition and compatibility. This system supports a reliable, reusable lifecyle and cross-border interchange within European supply chains.

Usage and lifecycle: The EUR-pallet is the most widely used pallet type in Europe, favored for its compatibility with intermodal logistics and its robust repair and recycling networks. Pallets are designed for many reuse cycles, with exchange and repair networks helping to minimize waste. Variants and non-EPAL pallets exist, but the EPAL Euro pallet remains the dominant standard in European logistics.
