Etuvalot, or front headlights, are the primary lighting devices mounted at the front of a road vehicle. They illuminate the road ahead, improve the driver's visibility in low light, and help other road users see the vehicle.

Most modern etuvalot use one of several lighting technologies: halogen (the traditional option), high-intensity discharge (HID, also called xenon), and light-emitting diode (LED) systems. More recently, laser-assisted headlights appear on a few high-end models. Halogen lamps are inexpensive and easy to replace but have shorter life and lower efficiency. HID lamps offer brighter light and longer range but can require more complex ballast. LEDs provide high efficiency, long life, rapid response, and compact form.

Headlight configurations include low beam (dipped) for normal driving and high beam (main beam) for opening up long-range visibility on unlit roads. Modern vehicles often combine LED daytime running lights with the main headlights; many models include adaptive systems that adjust aim, intensity, and beam pattern depending on speed, steering, and ambient light. Fog lights located lower on the front bumper are used in fog or heavy rain.

Regulatory standards govern color, intensity, and alignment, and differ by jurisdiction. In Europe, headlights must conform to ECE regulations; in the United States, SAE standards apply. Lighting requirements generally include a white or selective yellowish color, proper alignment to avoid glare, and activation under certain conditions (dusk-to-dawn, or automatic daylight sensors).

Regular checks and replacement when burnt out are recommended; keep lenses clean and aligned.
