estendeste
Estendeste is the second-person singular form of the pretérito perfeito simples (simple past) of the Portuguese verb estender. It translates to “you stretched” or “you extended” in English and is used to describe a completed action in the past carried out by the informal subject tú, common in European Portuguese and in some regional varieties of Brazilian Portuguese. In many parts of Brazil, the corresponding past-tense form for the informal you is often expressed with você, whose past tense is estendeu (third-person singular).
Estender comes from Latin extendere, meaning to spread, stretch, or widen. The pretérito perfeito simple in
- Tu estendeste a mão para cumprimentar o visitante. (You extended your hand to greet the visitor.)
- Ontem estendeste o prazo de entrega. (Yesterday you extended the delivery deadline.)
Because pronoun usage varies by dialect, many Portuguese speakers in Brazil use você estendeu instead of estendeste.
