Erüteemdoosi refers to the erythematous reaction of the skin to radiation exposure. This redness is a common, dose-dependent side effect of radiation therapy, also known as radiation dermatitis. The severity of the erythema depends on the total radiation dose received, the dose per fraction, the area of the body being treated, and individual patient sensitivity. It typically appears within hours to days after the start of radiation treatment and can worsen over the course of therapy.

The mechanism behind radiation-induced erythema involves damage to the basal cells of the epidermis and the microvasculature of the dermis. This damage triggers an inflammatory response characterized by vasodilation and increased blood flow, leading to the visible redness. While mild erythema may be asymptomatic or cause only slight itching or a burning sensation, more severe reactions can lead to pain, blistering, and desquamation (skin peeling).

Management of erüteemdoosi focuses on preventing further irritation and supporting skin healing. This includes gentle skin care practices, such as avoiding harsh soaps, hot water, and tight clothing. Moisturizing creams and lotions, often containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid or calendula, are frequently recommended to keep the skin hydrated and soothe discomfort. In cases of severe pain or blistering, medical intervention may be necessary, potentially involving topical corticosteroids or other symptomatic treatments. The erythema usually resolves gradually after radiation therapy is completed, though some residual skin changes may persist.
