Eristyksillä is the adessive plural form of the Finnish noun eristys, meaning insulation or isolation. In technical and architectural texts it is used to indicate insulation materials or systems that are applied to buildings, components, or devices “with insulation” or “using insulation,” for example in the context of walls, roofs, pipes, or equipment.

In construction and building physics, eristys serves to reduce undesired transfer of heat, sound, or moisture. Lämpöeristys refers to thermal insulation that minimizes heat loss or gain, while äänieristys concerns sound insulation that limits sound transmission between spaces. Eristys systems may also include moisture barriers and vapor controls to prevent condensation and mold.

Common insulation materials outside of specialized fields include mineral wool, glass wool, expanded polystyrene (EPS), extruded polystyrene (XPS), polyurethane foam, wood fiber, cork, and recycled cellulose fibers.
