Energydense, or energy-dense, describes foods or meals that contain a high amount of calories relative to their weight. Foods with high fat content, added sugars, or low water content generally have higher energy density, while foods rich in water and fiber tend to be lower in energy density. Because energy density focuses on weight rather than portion size alone, small portions of energy-dense foods can deliver many calories quickly.
