Energiapolitiikka, literally energy policy, is the set of public policies that shape how a country produces, delivers, and uses energy. It seeks to secure a reliable energy supply, keep prices affordable, and minimize environmental impact, while supporting economic activity and climate objectives.

The scope includes regulation of energy markets, tariffs, subsidies and tax instruments for different energy carriers, investment in infrastructure and grids, energy efficiency programs, R&D funding, and emissions trading or carbon pricing. It also encompasses planning for long-term energy needs, resilience, and market design to encourage investment in low-emission technologies.

Key themes include expanding renewable energy (wind, solar, hydro, biomass), managing nuclear and other low-emission sources, phasing out or reducing fossil fuels, electrification of transportation and heating, and ensuring system reliability and grid integration, cross-border energy trade, and security of supply. Policy aims are often linked to climate goals, industrial competitiveness, and social equity in energy access and affordability.

Governance involves ministries or government agencies, energy regulators, and parliament, with input from the private sector and utilities. International cooperation is central, particularly within the European Union and Nordic energy markets, reflecting cross-border energy systems and shared infrastructure.
