Electrichybrid is a term used to describe systems that combine electric propulsion with an additional energy source to provide power. While not a standardized term, it is commonly applied to mobility technologies that use electric energy as the primary vector and supplement it with another energy source, such as an internal combustion engine, a fuel cell, or an auxiliary generator. The concept covers configurations where electric machines drive the output directly or via energy generation, with energy storage such as batteries or capacitors playing a central role.

In series configurations, an energy source powers a generator to feed an electric motor that drives the wheels, with storage often decoupled from the drivetrain. In parallel arrangements, the electric motor and the other energy source can both contribute to propulsion. Some designs blend these approaches in a series–parallel hybrid. Control systems manage charging, regenerative braking, and torque distribution to optimize efficiency and emissions. Recharge may occur from braking or from an external supply in plug-in variants.

Electrichybrid concepts are most familiar through hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). They can also apply to stationary or portable power applications that combine electric energy with another source. The performance and environmental benefits depend on energy density, power density, and the effectiveness of energy management, while challenges include system complexity, cost, weight, and battery life considerations.
