Dummytekst is a term used in publishing, design, and software development to describe placeholder text placed in documents, websites, or user interfaces. It fills space to visualize layout, typography, and spacing without relying on actual content. The aim is to assess appearance rather than message.

The most common example is "Lorem ipsum," a pseudo-Latin passage used since the 16th century. It originated when a typesetter created nonsense text to mock up a font specimen. Over time, Lorem ipsum became a standard placeholder in both print and digital design.

Dummytekst is designed to resemble normal language in rhythm and typography but remains meaningless. It uses varied word lengths and punctuation to simulate real text, helping designers evaluate line breaks, kerning, and readability without exposing real content.

Today, many dummytekst generators exist that can produce blocks of text in multiple languages, including Danish. Localized variants and customizable lengths support testing for international layouts and multilingual sites.

Common use cases include wireframes, page proofs, UI mockups, and template drafts. It is not suitable for real communication or content testing; creators replace dummytekst with authentic copy before publication or production.
