Quality and challenges: Diagnostic accuracy depends on test characteristics (sensitivity, specificity) and pretest probability. Common risks include false positives, false negatives, misinterpretation, and overdiagnosis. Access to care, cost, and bias can affect the diagnostic process.

Impact and ethics: Accurate diagnosis guides treatment, prognosis, and patient counseling. Physicians have an ethical obligation to communicate uncertainty, discuss alternatives, and respect patient preferences, while protecting confidentiality.
