Deskriptibo is a term used in Filipino language arts to refer to descriptive writing. It describes people, places, objects, or events by detailing their features, appearance, and sensory qualities. The goal is to create a vivid image in the reader’s mind rather than to argue a point or tell a story.

In a deskriptibo passage, writers rely on concrete detail and sensory language—color, texture, sound, smell, taste, and mood. They may organize details by space (top to bottom, near to far) or by aspect (size, shape, color, function). The writing tends to foreground observation and perception, inviting readers to see the subject through the writer’s perspective.

In educational settings, deskriptibo is one of the core genres of writing. Prompts often ask students to describe a person, place, object, or event, focusing on how things look, feel, or sound. It is commonly used in descriptive essays, character sketches, and introductory writing exercises to develop observation and expressive skills.

Deskriptibo is distinct from other genres in its purpose and emphasis. Unlike ekspositori, it does not primarily explain or inform; unlike naratibo, it does not center on a sequence of events or a plot. Instead, it aims to convey a vivid impression by assembling precise details and sensory cues.

Common features of deskriptibo writing include precise nouns, abundant adjectives and adverbs, figurative language, and careful organization that guides the reader’s imagination. Effective deskriptibo text balances detail with clarity, avoiding overstatement and clichés.
