A denturist is a health-care professional who specializes in removable dental prostheses, particularly dentures. They design, fabricate, fit, assess, and adjust dentures to ensure comfort, function, and aesthetics. They may also provide denture care education and ongoing maintenance. Denturists are separate from dentists and from dental laboratory technicians; in jurisdictions where denturism is regulated, they may practice with varying degrees of independence from dentists.

Scope of practice: In regulated regions, duties commonly include taking intraoral impressions and bite registrations, selecting artificial teeth and arranging occlusion, presenting a try-in denture for patient approval, delivering the final denture, and performing relines, repairs, and adjustments. They may assess oral tissues and take measurements to inform denture design, but they generally do not perform surgical procedures or diagnose comprehensive dental disease.

Education and licensure: Entry typically requires postsecondary education in denturism or dental prosthetics, often a 2–4 year diploma or degree followed by licensing examinations and registration with a provincial or state regulatory body. Many jurisdictions require continuing education to maintain licensure. Practices vary by location; some denturists operate independent clinics, others work in dental offices under a dentist's supervision.

Role and outlook: The denturist profession addresses the need for accessible denture care, including initial denture fittings, adjustments during the early wear period, and ongoing maintenance. Advances in materials and digital fabrication have influenced practice, with some clinics using CAD/CAM denture production.
