Materials commonly used include natural rubber, nitrile rubber (NBR), EPDM, silicone, and polyurethane, often with viscoelastic additives to improve damping. The choice depends on operating temperature, exposure to oils or solvents, and aging resistance. Damping pads are designed to provide a balance between static load support and dynamic isolation, with performance varying across frequencies and temperatures.

Design considerations include load-bearing capacity, stiffness, thickness, and installation conditions. Over time, pads may experience creep and compression set, reducing isolation effectiveness. Environmental factors such as heat, ozone, UV light, and chemical exposure can alter material properties and shorten service life.

Typical applications include mounting for pumps, fans, air handling units, and other rotating equipment; vibration isolation for electronic racks and consoles; and protective pads in automotive assemblies and consumer appliances. They may be sold as simple pads or integrated into modular isolator systems with bolts or fasteners.

Maintenance involves regular inspection for cracks, deformities, oil staining, or loss of height. Degraded pads should be replaced to maintain isolation performance. Proper selection and installation, considering load, service temperature, and chemical exposure, extend service life and effectiveness.
