Demaratoitua is a Finnish term that would literally imply “to become democratized” or “to undergo democratization.” The form is not widely established in standard Finnish dictionaries and appears mainly in informal or journalistic use as a coined expression describing a political process. When used, it refers to the transition of a political system toward greater democratic characteristics rather than to a single reform.

In political science, democratization denotes the process by which a regime shifts from non-democratic or partly democratic rule toward more inclusive and participatory governance.
