dejás

Dejás is the second-person singular present indicative form of the Spanish verb dejar when used with the voseo pronoun. It is a hallmark of Rioplatense Spanish, particularly in Argentina and Uruguay, where vos is commonly used instead of tú. The corresponding standard form for tú is dejas, while the formal usted uses deja.

Form and usage: In voseo, dejar follows the usual present tense pattern for -ar verbs, but the second-person singular ending changes to -ás with an accent: dejás. The accent marks the stress on the last syllable. For comparison, the tú form is dejas. Other vos forms differ from tú in related tenses and moods (for example, dejás in present, dejás de hacer algo you stop doing something). In negative constructions, the vos form also uses -és or -és in some varieties, often rendered as no dejés. The imperative for vos is dejá, while the usted form remains deja.

Geographic distribution: Dejás is widespread in Argentina and Uruguay and is common in informal speech in parts of Paraguay. In regions where voseo is less dominant, or in formal writing, the tú form dejas is used instead.
