Contabilitas, a term derived from the Latin "computare" meaning to count or reckon, broadly refers to the systematic recording, classifying, summarizing, and interpreting of financial transactions and events. It is the language of business, providing a framework for understanding an organization's financial health and performance.

The primary goal of contabilitas is to generate accurate and reliable financial information. This information is crucial for a variety of stakeholders, including management, investors, creditors, and regulatory bodies. Management uses contabilitas data for decision-making, planning, and controlling operations. Investors rely on it to assess the profitability and future prospects of a company. Creditors use it to determine a borrower's ability to repay debts. Governments and regulatory agencies utilize financial statements for taxation and oversight purposes.

Contabilitas encompasses several key processes. Recording involves documenting every financial transaction in chronological order, often in journals.
