conspicuity
Conspicuity is the degree to which an object, feature, or person stands out from its surroundings and is quickly noticed by observers. It depends on properties of the object (size, color, brightness, reflectivity), on the background and scene (clutter, contrast, lighting), and on the observer’s state and expectations. Conspicuity is related to, but not identical with, visibility or detectability: an item may be visible yet not salient enough to draw attention promptly, or it may be highly conspicuous due to salient features even in low visibility conditions.
In design and safety contexts, conspicuity is used to improve detection and recognition. Pedestrians, cyclists, road
Factors that promote conspicuity include luminance contrast (the brightness difference with the background), chromatic contrast (color
