Cirkusz, also known as circus, is a form of entertainment that combines performance arts such as acrobatics, clowning, juggling, magic, and animal acts. Originating in ancient civilizations, the modern circus as we know it began to take shape in the 18th century, particularly with the work of Philip Astley, who established the first permanent circus in England in 1768. His "horse-riding school" featured equestrian performances and became the foundation for the traveling circus format that would later spread across Europe and the Americas.

The traditional circus features a big top tent, a large canvas structure that provides a central performance space. Performers often travel with the circus, performing in various locations to reach wide audiences. Over time, circuses evolved to include diverse acts, such as trapeze artists, contortionists, strongmen, and aerialists, alongside the classic clowns and animal acts. While animal acts remain a contentious topic due to ethical concerns, many modern circuses have phased them out in favor of human-focused performances.

Cirkusz performances typically follow a structured format, beginning with a parade of performers and animals (if present) entering the ring, followed by a series of acts. The ringmaster or ringmistress often oversees the show, guiding the audience through the performances and maintaining the entertainment flow.
