Centromerein is a term that appears in some scholarly discussions to denote a centromere-associated factor implicated in chromosome segregation. It is not part of the official, widely used nomenclature for centromere or kinetochore components, and there is no universally accepted identity for centromerein as a single gene, protein, complex, or molecule. In various speculative or early-stage studies, centromerein may be described as a centromeric entity—potentially a protein, multi-subunit complex, or small molecule—that associates with centromeric chromatin and influences mitotic or meiotic chromosome behavior.

Localization and proposed function are described in a range of hypothetical contexts. When discussed as a centromere-associated factor, centromerein is envisaged to localize to centromeric regions during cell division, potentially co-localizing with CENP-A–containing nucleosomes and other kinetochore components.
