Cellplastprodukter, or foam plastic products, refer to items made from cellular plastic, most commonly polystyrene-based foam such as expanded polystyrene (EPS) and extruded polystyrene (XPS). These foams consist of numerous cells and are lightweight, rigid materials with low thermal conductivity. The term is widely used in Nordic countries to describe foam-based packaging, insulation, and construction components.

EPS is produced by expanding polystyrene beads and fusing them in molds or layers; XPS is produced by extruding polystyrene with a blowing agent to create closed cells. The resulting products are buoyant, dimensionally stable, and offer good thermal insulation and moisture resistance. They are molded into sheets, boards, blocks, or custom shapes for construction, packaging, or marine use.

Common applications include building insulation boards and sandwich panels, foam blocks for packaging, insulation modules for cold storage, and lightweight core materials in composite panels or floating devices.

Environmental considerations include the durability and non-biodegradability of cellplastprodukter. Recycling is possible in facilities equipped to handle foam plastics, often via mechanical recycling or energy recovery, but it is not universally available. End-of-life management and litter concerns motivate efforts to reduce use, improve recycling rates, and explore alternative materials.

Handling safety includes avoiding high temperatures and open flames, as foam can melt or emit toxic fumes. When cutting or shaping, use appropriate protection and work in well-ventilated areas. Disposal should follow local waste-management guidelines.
