Burettist is a laboratory professional who specializes in performing titrations with a burette, a calibrated glass tube used to deliver precise volumes of a reagent. The term is most commonly found in European languages and may refer to a technician who focuses on titration work in analytical laboratories, quality control, or teaching laboratories. In English, the role is more often described as a titration technician or analytical chemist, but burettist remains a recognized job title in some institutions.

Duties include preparing reagents and standards, standardizing the titrant, cleaning and conditioning glassware, and filling and reading the burette accurately. The burettist records initial and final readings to at least 0.01 mL, performs concordant replicate titrations, and calculates the analyte concentration from the titre data. They also maintain and calibrate equipment, document methods and results, and troubleshoot issues such as air bubbles in the burette or drift in indicators.

Techniques involve rinsing and filling the burette, using indicators or potentiometric endpoints, and choosing the appropriate titration type (acid-base, redox, complexometric). They may standardize the titrant against a primary standard, perform endpoint determinations, and report uncertainties and precision.

Training typically includes a chemistry laboratory program, with specific instruction in titration techniques, measurement precision, and safety. Employers value accuracy, traceability, and knowledge of potential error sources such as burette leakage, misreading, or improper mixing.
