Bläscheninhalt refers to the fluid or substance contained within a blister. Blisters are raised areas of skin that fill with fluid. The type and appearance of the bläscheninhalt can vary depending on the cause of the blister.

Common causes of blisters include friction, burns, allergic reactions, and certain medical conditions. In the case of friction blisters, the bläscheninhalt is typically clear serum, a colorless fluid that leaks from damaged tissues. Thermal burns, especially second-degree burns, can also produce bläscheninhalt that is often clear or slightly cloudy.

Blisters caused by infections, such as herpes simplex virus or varicella-zoster virus (chickenpox and shingles), may contain bläscheninhalt that is more cloudy or even pus-like if a secondary bacterial infection occurs. Some autoimmune blistering diseases can also cause blisters with characteristic bläscheninhalt, which may contain antibodies or inflammatory cells.

The bläscheninhalt itself is not typically harmful, but the blister serves as a protective cushion for the underlying damaged skin, promoting healing. It is generally advised not to intentionally rupture blisters unless they are causing significant pain or are at risk of further injury, as the intact skin of the blister provides a sterile environment. If a blister ruptures on its own, the bläscheninhalt is released, and the exposed skin should be kept clean to prevent infection. Medical professionals may sometimes drain a blister if it is very large or causing discomfort, taking care to maintain the integrity of the overlying skin flap.
