In biology, a beeswarm is a group of honeybees that leaves a hive in coordinated flight to establish a new colony. Swarming typically occurs during spring when colonies become crowded or during nectar flows. The swarm consists of the queen and a large portion of worker bees; scouts search for a suitable nest site while the rest temporarily cluster on a branch, fence, or other attachment. Once a site is chosen and a new hive is prepared, the swarm moves there and the workers begin brood care in the new home. Beekeepers may manage or capture swarms to expand hives; swarming is a natural reproductive behavior rather than an immediate threat to humans, though swarms can become defensive if disturbed.

In statistics and data visualization, a beeswarm plot is a method for displaying the distribution of a numeric variable across categories by plotting each observation as a point arranged to avoid overlap. Instead of a traditional scatter plot with jitter, the points are shifted along the axis perpendicular to the category to minimize collision, producing a beaded, swarm-like pattern. This preserves individual data values and reveals density and gaps that may be hidden in boxplots or violin plots. Beeswarm plots are implemented in various software tools and are commonly used in exploratory data analysis to compare groups with small to moderate sample sizes.
