A beachball is a large, inflatable ball designed for outdoor recreation, commonly used on beaches, at pools, and in yards. It is lightweight, highly visible, and easy to toss, bounce, or paddle through the air.

Beach balls are usually made from synthetic vinyl or PVC and consist of two or more panels joined by heat sealing or stitching. They feature an air valve for inflation and deflation, and their surfaces are often decorated with bright multi-colored patterns or stripes for visibility and appeal.

Size varies widely. Consumer beach balls commonly range from about 6 to 24 inches (15 to 60 cm) in diameter when inflated. Smaller balls are marketed for children, while larger “giant” beach balls can exceed 40 inches (over 100 cm) and are used for group activities or decorative purposes.

The modern inflatable beach ball began appearing in the mid-20th century and was mass-produced by toy manufacturers in the 1950s and 1960s, helping to popularize the item as a staple of summer recreation.

Safety and care considerations include supervising young children around water, since puncture risks and choking hazards may apply to small parts. Beach balls should be used away from sharp objects, stored deflated when not in use, and inspected for leaks to prevent sudden deflation.
