Barostatter is not a standard term in scientific literature, and it may be encountered as a misspelling or variant of barostat. A barostat is a device or algorithm that controls pressure within a system, maintaining or adjusting it to a user-defined value. Barostats can be mechanical, electro-pneumatic, or software-based, depending on the application.

In physiology and medicine, barostats regulate pressure within a chamber or cuff to study visceral sensation, gastrointestinal motility, or blood pressure-related reflexes. A typical setup uses a balloon or flexible cavity connected to a feedback controller that keeps pressure at a setpoint, either by adjusting the volume or the applied force. Such devices enable researchers to map pressure–volume relationships and to vary pressure according to programmed protocols to study mechanical properties or receptor responses.

In computational chemistry and molecular dynamics, a barostat is an algorithm that preserves a constant pressure in a simulated system by scaling the simulation box and particle coordinates or by adjusting particle moves, enabling the sampling of the isobaric ensemble. Common approaches include the Berendsen, Parrinello–Rahman, and Martyna–Tobias–Klein schemes.

Some sources may use "barostatter" informally to refer to these devices or software, but the standard terminology in the field is "barostat" (plural barostats). The concept remains the same: regulation of pressure to study or mimic isobaric conditions, whether in physical experiments, medical instrumentation, or computer simulations.
