An apiculturist is an individual who practices apiculture, the practice of beekeeping. Apiculture involves the maintenance of honey bee colonies, typically in man-made hives, by humans. Apiculturists are responsible for the care and management of these bees for various purposes, including the production of honey, beeswax, pollen, royal jelly, and propolis. They also play a role in the pollination services that honey bees provide to agricultural crops.

The work of an apiculturist requires a deep understanding of bee biology, behavior, and the diseases and pests that can affect them. They monitor hive health, check for the presence of pests like the Varroa mite and diseases such as American foulbrood, and manage swarming behavior. Apiculturists often engage in activities such as inspecting frames, adding or removing supers (boxes for honey storage), and feeding colonies when necessary. They also harvest honey and other bee products when they are ready.

The scale of apiculture can vary significantly, from hobbyist beekeepers with a few hives in their backyard to commercial operations managing thousands of colonies. Regardless of scale, the goal is to maintain healthy, productive bee colonies while ensuring the well-being of the bees themselves.
