Alátámasztási is a Hungarian term used primarily in civil engineering and construction to refer to the process of providing additional support to a structure or foundation in order to increase its load-bearing capacity or to stabilize it during construction or renovation. The concept encompasses several techniques, including the installation of deep foundations, the construction of stay beams, or the use of so‑called “underpinning” systems.

In underpinning, lateral or vertical supports are applied beneath existing foundations to transfer loads to stronger soil layers, thereby preventing settlement or differential movement. Techniques vary from shallow footings that fill voids to deep piles driven or drilled into bedrock. Alátámasztási may also involve the use of vertical columns, horizontal beams, or cable braces tied to existing structural elements.

The motivation for alátámasztási is often driven by ground instability, seismic activity, or the need to extend the lifespan of aging structures. In renovation projects, temporary alátámasztási is employed to maintain structural integrity while internal modifications are carried out.
