Altiris refers to a family of IT management software products originally developed by Altiris, Inc. The suite is designed to help enterprises automate and centralize management of endpoints, covering deployment, software distribution, patch management, asset inventory, and remote administration. Core components included Altiris Deployment Solution for operating system and software provisioning, Altiris Inventory and Asset Management for hardware and software inventory, Altiris Patch Management to automate updates, and Altiris Notification Server for event-driven workflows within the IT management infrastructure.

Altiris, Inc. emerged in the late 1990s as a provider of systems management tools for mid-to-large organizations. The company was acquired by Symantec in 2007 for about $830 million in cash, a deal that expanded Symantec’s management and enterprise software offerings.

Following the acquisition, Altiris technology was integrated into Symantec’s management platform and continued to be marketed as part of the Symantec Management Platform, with Altiris components forming key modules for deployment, inventory, and automation within the broader suite.

In 2019, Broadcom acquired Symantec’s enterprise business, including the management platform lineage. The Altiris technology became part of Broadcom’s enterprise software portfolio, with branding and support aligned to Broadcom’s product strategy. As a result, Altiris operates today primarily as legacy and transitioned components within a larger, evolving IT management ecosystem.
