AllaniteNd is a variety of the silicate mineral allanite that is notable for its enhanced concentration of neodymium (Nd). In its general formula, allanite is Ca(REE,Al)6(SiO4)4O2, where REE denotes the rare earth elements. The AllaniteNd composition shifts the REE distribution toward higher neodymium fractions, making this variety an important host for Nd extraction as well as a natural source for geochemical and isotopic studies.

The mineral crystallizes in the monoclinic system, typically forming small, opaque, orange‐to‐brownish granules or lenses. Its physical properties are similar to those of ordinary allanite: a Mohs hardness of 5.5–6.5, a specific gravity around 4.4–4.6, and a vitreous to resinous luster. Transparency ranges from opaque to subtranslucent, and it usually occurs without visible cleavage. AllaniteNd is usually found in felsic to mafic gneisses, granulites, and sometimes in altered metasedimentary rocks, where it can be associated with biotite, epidote, and cordierite. In certain alkaline igneous complexes, especially carbonatites and alkaline intrusions, the Nd content in allanite can be exceptionally high, rendering those deposits valuable for rare‑earth element (REE) exploration.

Because of its composition, allaniteNd is a key isotope host for Sm–Nd radiometric dating. The natural decay of 147Sm to 143Nd provides a chronometer that can be used to constrain the timing of metamorphic and igneous events. The enriched Nd supply makes allaniteNd particularly useful for studying isotopic reservoirs and for refining models of crustal differentiation. In addition to its dating applications, allaniteNd can serve as an ore material in the extraction of neodymium and other rare earths for industrial uses such as permanent magnets, high‑temperature alloys, and optical ceramics.
