Akuprotsesside refers to the traditional method of earthenware pottery production, prevalent in Estonia and the Baltic region. This unique crafts process involves creating pottery pieces using a combination of hand-building and coiling techniques.

The process begins with the creation of small pressed blocks, which are then used to form the vessel body. A small wheel is often used to shape the piece, allowing for more control over the spinning and shaping processes. The vessel is then leather-hard, meaning it has reached the stage where it is still pliable but begins to harden.

Coiling and trimming techniques are employed to refine the shape and create smooth edges. Final details are added to the piece, and it is then dried in a controlled environment to prevent shrinkage. The vessel is then fired at a high temperature, around 1100 degrees Celsius, in a kiln or outdoor pit.

The firing process gives the pottery its distinctive, terracotta-like appearance. Once fired, the vessel is treated with a natural wax or oil to enhance the finish and add a protective layer. Some artisans choose to display the piece in its raw state, while others add slip or other decorating techniques to enhance the visual appeal.
