airMAX

airMAX is a proprietary radio technology developed by Ubiquiti Networks designed to improve network performance and scalability in wireless broadband deployments. It addresses the limitations of conventional Wi-Fi protocols, such as Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA), which can lead to inefficient bandwidth usage and slower speeds in environments with many connected devices.

The core innovation of airMAX is its Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology, known as airMAX TDMA. This protocol allows access points to schedule data transmission times for each client device, eliminating the need for devices to wait for clear airwaves or contend for access. This controlled scheduling significantly reduces latency and increases throughput, especially in point-to-multipoint (PtMP) networks where a single access point serves multiple remote clients.

airMAX technology is integrated into Ubiquiti's airMAX product line, which includes a range of wireless devices such as sector antennas, dish antennas, and CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) radios. These products are commonly used for fixed wireless access, providing internet connectivity to homes and businesses, as well as for backhaul links between network locations.
