Zuordnungs

Zuordnungs is not a common standalone term in standard German; the related noun most often used is Zuordnung, meaning assignment, allocation, or mapping. The form zuordnungs- appears as a combining stem in several technical terms, such as Zuordnungsproblem (assignment problem) or Zuordnungsrelation (mapping relation). It derives from the verb zuordnen, meaning to assign or allocate, with the suffix -ung forming a noun or organizational prefix in compounds.

In mathematics and computer science, a Zuordnung refers to a mapping from a set called the domain to a set called the codomain. The term is closely related to, and often synonymous with, Abbildung or Funktion. When every element of the domain is paired with exactly one element of the codomain, the Zuordnung is a function. Properties such as injective, surjective, and bijective describe the nature of the pairing.

Applications of Zuordnungen appear across disciplines. In data handling, a Zuordnung maps input features to labels or categories. In databases, a Zuordnung can describe the linkage provided by a foreign key. In optimization and operations research, the classical Zuordnungsproblem, or assignment problem, seeks an optimal one-to-one mapping between two finite sets, commonly solved by algorithms like the Hungarian method.
