Z06

Z06 is a high-performance variant designation used by Chevrolet for the Corvette sports car. The Z06 name originated as a factory racing homologation package and has been applied to several generations of the Corvette. Across these generations, the Z06 typically signifies enhanced powertrains, chassis development, brakes, and aerodynamic features intended for both street use and track duty.

Origins and lineage: The first Z06 appeared in 1963 as a limited-run option created to support Chevrolet’s racing program and FIA/SCCA competition requirements. In later decades, the Z06 name was revived for subsequent generations with increasing levels of performance, becoming the extreme performance variant within each generation of the Corvette.

Modern Z06 (C8): The current-generation Z06 is based on the mid‑engine C8 Corvette. It uses a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 with a flat-plane crank, designated LT6, producing about 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Z07 aero and performance package adds advanced aluminum or carbon components, enhanced aerodynamics, and track-focused suspension tuning. Official performance claims place 0–60 mph in roughly 2.6–2.7 seconds and a top speed near 198 mph, with braking and handling capabilities tailored to circuit use.

Earlier Z06 models: The C5 Z06 (2001–2004) used a high-output 5.7-liter V8, with power around 405 hp, and a focused chassis package. The C6 Z06 (2006–2013) employed a larger 7.0-liter V8 producing about 505 hp, with substantial weight reduction and aero improvements. The C7 Z06 (2015–2019) featured a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 delivering about 650 hp, continuing the emphasis on track readiness and high performance.

The Z06 remains Chevrolet’s flagship for Corvette performance, balancing high-speed capability with street usability.
