Ytelseskritiske
Ytelseskritiske is a term used in Norwegian-language science to denote phenomena in which surface properties govern the behavior of a system more than its bulk properties. In ytelseskritiske scenarios, factors such as surface energy, roughness, chemical composition of the surface, and adsorbed species determine thresholds, reaction rates, or stability. This contrasts with bulk-dominated behavior where the interior of the material sets the relevant limits.
Fields and phenomena: The concept applies across materials science, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Examples include surface-catalyzed
Characterization and study: Researchers investigate ytelseskritiske effects using surface-sensitive techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),
Implications: Understanding ytelseskritiske phenomena informs material design of protective coatings, catalysts, and micro- or nano-scale devices
