Ylivalotettu

Ylivalotettu is a Finnish adjective used to describe something that has been illuminated more strongly than is appropriate or desirable. In everyday language it often refers to lighting that is excessively bright, making details fade in highlights and creating an unnatural or harsh visual effect. The term is formed from yli- ("over") and valotettu (the past participle of valottaa/valoittaa, "to illuminate").

In photography and film, ylivalotettu describes an image or scene where the exposure is too high, resulting in blown-out highlights and loss of detail in bright areas. It can also refer to lighting conditions in a studio or location shoot that produce a flat or glare-heavy look. Correcting it involves reducing light intensity, adjusting exposure, using diffusers or flags, or altering lighting ratios.

In interior design or architecture, the term can describe rooms or spaces that are overly bright or glare-inducing; the effect can wash out colors and reduce perceived depth. It is more common in reviews of media lighting than in formal architectural terminology.
