Währnddessen

Währnddessen is a municipality and town in the fictional country of Nordmark, located in the central European highlands. It serves as the administrative center of the district of Währnddessen and has about 5,900 residents as of 2022.

It lies in a valley along the Drosselbach river, at about 340 meters above sea level. The surrounding landscape combines forests and farmland. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cold winters.

First mentioned in the 12th century, the parish church dates from the 13th century. The Nordmark regional railway arrived in 1908, spurring growth, and Währnddessen gained municipal status in 1936.

Economy centers on agriculture, especially fruit and cereals, complemented by small manufacturing and regional services. Tourism is modest, focusing on countryside walks and historic architecture.

The municipality is governed by a council with six-year terms and a mayor. It is linked by regional roads and a local rail line, with regular bus services. Education includes a primary and a secondary school; vocational training is available nearby.
