Workloadanalyse

Workloadanalyse, or workload analysis, is a systematic process for measuring the amount, intensity, and distribution of work required by tasks, jobs, or processes. In German-speaking contexts the term is commonly used to describe efforts to understand how much work is placed on individuals, teams, or systems and how that workload impacts performance and well-being.

Methodologically, workloadanalyse combines objective measurements (time studies, task analysis, automated telemetry) with subjective assessments (survey instruments such as NASA-TLX, SWAT) to capture cognitive, physical, and temporal demands. Data are analyzed to determine workload levels, peak periods, multitasking demands, and capacity gaps.

Applications are found in ergonomics, human factors, and operations management across healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, IT, and service industries. Outcomes include informed staffing and scheduling, workload redistribution, process redesign, automation decisions, and risk reduction for errors and burnout.

Challenges include variability across individuals and contexts, subjectivity of some measures, measurement burden, and privacy and ethical considerations when monitoring workers. Effective workloadanalyse relies on clear goals, representative sampling, baseline data, and alignment with organizational constraints.
