Wischen

Wischen is a German verb with several related meanings tied to motion and cleanliness. The primary sense is to wipe or sweep a surface with a cloth, sponge, or similar tool in order to remove dirt, moisture, or marks. It can also describe a brushing or sliding motion across a surface that leaves it clean, dry, or smooth, or to move something quickly through a surface to clear it. In everyday language, wischen is used for both cleaning and for passing a motion across something, such as wiping a whiteboard or sweeping dirt away.
