Whistleears

Whistleears is a term used to describe a phenomenon where individuals experience a high-pitched whistling or ringing sound in their ears, often without an external source. This sensation is commonly known as tinnitus. While the term "whistleears" is not a formal medical diagnosis, it captures the subjective experience of a distinct type of tinnitus characterized by a whistling quality.

The exact causes of whistleears, or whistling tinnitus, are not always clear and can vary widely. Potential contributing factors include exposure to loud noises, which can damage the delicate hair cells in the inner ear responsible for hearing. Other causes may include earwax buildup, ear infections, changes in ear bones, certain medications, head or neck injuries, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. In some cases, whistleears can be a symptom of underlying medical conditions such as Meniere's disease or acoustic neuroma, though these are less common.

The perceived sound in whistleears can range in pitch and volume and may be constant or intermittent. It is important to note that whistleears itself is a symptom, not a disease.
