Wheels

A wheel is a circular component that rotates around an axle and is used to support and move loads with reduced friction. When combined with an axle, the wheel and axle form a simple machine that converts a driving force into linear motion while easing the effort required to move heavy objects. Origin and history: The earliest wheels appeared in Mesopotamia around 3500 BCE as potter’s wheels. Wheels designed for transportation were developed by roughly 3000–2500 BCE, enabling carts and chariots. Over time, wheel technology advanced from solid wooden wheels to variants with spokes and metal rims, increasing strength and reducing weight. Modern developments emphasize lighter materials, advanced tire technologies, precision bearings, and improved wheel geometry and maintenance practices to enhance durability, efficiency, and safety.
