Vöröskereszt

Vöröskereszt is the Hungarian Red Cross, the national Red Cross society in Hungary. The organization is commonly known as Magyar Vöröskereszt and operates as part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, collaborating with the International Committee of the Red Cross. It maintains a nationwide network of local chapters and volunteers to provide humanitarian aid, health services, and disaster response within Hungary.

Its activities include emergency relief and recovery during natural disasters such as floods, storms, and fires; emergency medical services and first aid training; blood donation campaigns; home care and nursing services for the elderly and disabled; and social welfare programs for families and children. It also assists refugees and asylum seekers and conducts health education, vaccination campaigns where applicable, and humanitarian logistics in crises. The organization upholds the principles of the Red Cross Movement: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.

Historically, the Magyar Vöröskereszt traces its origins to the late 19th century and has been involved in national and international relief efforts for many decades. It is a non-profit humanitarian organization recognized under Hungarian law, funded by donations, government support, and grants. As a member of the international Movement, it cooperates with the IFRC and ICRC to provide aid beyond national borders when needed.
